Chapter 13 – Accessibility Guidelines

Introduction

Thanks for your interest in the Abra kick-off training about the accessibility of apps. My name is Paul van Workum and I am working in the field of app accessibility.

Accessibility Guidelines

The Web Content Accessibility Guidelines (WCAG) are international accessibility guidelines. In America, the legislation refers to version 2.0. In the EU, they refer to version 2.1. Both refer to the level AA criteria. The WCAG guideline is evolving each version and also partly applicable on apps.

Structure

The guidelines consist of 4 principles, 13 guidelines and 78 success criteria. WCAG 2.1 level AA consists of 50 criteria.

Exceptions

The EN 301 549 Standard from the EU excludes 6 success criteria for apps. Those are:
