Abra has developed the Female Orphan School Walking Tour app for Western Sydney University. The app provides users with extra information during their visit.

The app has been developed for Android tablets and makes use of Beacons to determine its position in the building. A Beacon is a device that makes use of Bluetooth Low Energy to "advertise" data. Beacons that comply to the AltBeacon specification have been created by using Raspberry Pi's with Bluetooth 4.0 modules.

The app consists of the following three screens:

1. Splash screen: image of the Female Orphan School and the sponsors

2. Information screen: information about the app and collaborators

3. Media screen: photo's, video's and text based on position

Based on the nearest Beacon the fragments inside the media screen are switched around.

One of the AltBeacon modules that has been created. Hardware used: Raspberry Pi, 8GB MicroSDHC Class 10, 2A Micro-USB Power Supply, DeLock USB 2.0 Bluetooth V4.0 module.
